Patricia
A. Takemoto, UW-System
Dr. Takemoto first joined the University of Wisconsin enterprise
in 1982 as the Director of Finance and Administration for WHA-TV
(Wisconsin Public Television) and has held subsequent positions
as the Associate Director of the Annenberg/Corporation for Public
Broadcasting Project (Wisconsin Public Radio), Senior Outreach Officer
(UW-Madison), Special Assistant to the Senior Vice President (UW System Administration), Educational
Program Officer (UW Learning Innovations) before assuming her current
position in 2003. Prior to coming to Wisconsin, she served as Director
of Student Activities at Northern Illinois University. During her
undergraduate years, she worked with Project Upward Bound, a pre-college
program targeted at Chicago's inner city youth and later was an educator with the
Illinois Department of Corrections (juvenile division) where she worked with hundreds of young people
of color. Pat holds a Master's Degree in English Language and Literature
from the University of Chicago and a Doctorate in Adult and Continuing
Education from Northern Illinois University. Born and raised in
the multicultural society of Hawaii, Pat grew up in a community
where race and ethnicity were only incidental considerations surpassed
by merit, education, and professional life experiences. Her professional
work has always been guided by her belief and commitment to higher
and lifelong education, which she feels are the most effective routes
to creating a society that values diversity and understands and
welcomes the inevitable changes that come with an increasingly global
economy. She also believes that community public service is an integral
part of one's professional responsibilities and has served on many
boards including the Voluntary Action Center, the Wisconsin Humanities
Council, the Madison Repertory Theatre, the Dane County Cultural
Affairs Commission, the Wisconsin Organization for Asian Americans,
the Mann Minority Scholars Endowment Fund, Pacific and Asian Women's
Alliance, and Bach Dancing and Dynamite Chamber Music Society.
